Here's a view of the Greek hillside town approaching Knossos.

The inevitable tourist shops outside the entrance to the ruins of the Minoan palace of Knossos. Signs in English, of course.

I bought the booklet with much better photos than I could possible take, but these are my own, and valuable for that reason. Minoan civilization lasted over 1500 years, from 2600 BC to 1100 BC.

Leading to the Labyrinth and the Minotaur, perhaps? The site was certainly labyrinthine, with over 1500 rooms, many interconnected, on several levels. We were only able to see a small portion of the site.

The entrance to the Throne Room.

And inside the Throne Room, with restored frescoes.

The famous fresco of Cretan bull dancing. This is a copy, the original is in a museum.

A view from the top.

The nearby museum had a collection of antiquities found at Knossos. These are clay figurines.

And painted clay pots and pitchers.

A sarcophagus with painted scenes depicting funeral rites.

And gold jewelry I would happily wear today.
