The second day in Greece started early, with an excursion to the north-west of Athens, crossing the Corinth Canal to the Peloponnese peninsula.
We visited the site of Epidaurus, and its fabulous arena.
And a few remains of the temple.
A small museum contains antiquities salvaged from the site.
Next came a brief visit to a Greek ceramics factory and shop. This is the very enthusiastic owner in front of some of his products.
Next came Mycenae, a site that's always been in my imagination. The foundations are visible high up on the nearer brown height.
We first entered the treasury of Atreus, with a huge interior dome of fitted stone.
This is the fabled Lion Gate.
Yes, I was there, and I carried a stone away from the top to prove it.
