Pictures Saved!

I was in shock on our last day in Sweden, as I had inadvertently re-formatted my camera disk and deleted all the pictures (about 400) of Norway, Denmark and Sweden. Thinking all was lost anyway, I kept taking more pictures on the disk (the only one I had) - another day in Sweden, and then 4 days in Finland. We all thought that reformatting had completely erased the pictures beyond recovery.

When we got home, Hubster went on the Internet, and found a couple of programs that not just recovered deleted pictures, but also recovered re-formatted disks. He performed a miracle (actually the program did), and got all my pictures back (except the ones I took in Finland over the first hundred or so on the disk, so I actually did lose my Norway pictures). More good news though - Hubster was also taking pictures on his own camera, so he shared his Norway pictures with me. He has a different attitude toward traveling and photo opportunities than I do, but at least I have some views similar to those I had taken myself. Isn't technology wonderful!

Two lessons learned: Don't by any means reformat camera disks when there are pictures on them, and don't put all the pictures on a single disk.

Hooray for Boston!

Hubster and I just returned from 3 weeks (almost) in Scandinavia, and we landed in Boston earlier this afternoon. We had a shuttle ride through the center of the city because another passenger had to get to the Hilton Hotel. We've been to many European cities in the last three years, and I was especially struck by how beautiful Boston was today, especially compared with the European ones. The city was clean and green, and there were flowers everywhere - in all the parks, in front of city buildings, hotels, restaurants - all neat and trimmed and colorful. I noticed only one spot of graffitti during the drive - amazing! The city is blessed with great architecture, grand hotels, wonderful restaurants - we can truly be proud of this splendid city.

And just as beautiful was the ride home to Connecticut - how lush and green everything is today. Let's keep our New England just as clean and green and lovely, and be glad every day that we live in such a wonderful land.

Never Say Never

I'm traveling in Europe these past two weeks (and one more to go). Before I left home, I had a brainstorm and printed out all the blogs I wrote about my trip last year - the river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. It was a wonderful way to capture all the comments I made about the pictures I took. So traveling around Scandinavia I decided to do the same thing about this trip. So many wonderful places we have visited in Norway, Denmark and Sweden (and soon to visit Finland). So I will document the trip in my blog, probably beginning in June when I have things sorted out and the photos printed. So if anybody is still checking this out (which I doubt), stay tuned for Scandinavia.

And I have bought yarn here - two ball of variegated blue\green sock yarn in Norway, and two kits for knitting little Danish houses in Odense. And I brought my knitting along, and have done a lot of work on a tank top made from the Flat Feet fabric, which is really fun to do. I can't post pictures of this now, but maybe later.

Some other people need to use this computer now - we are limited here at the place we are staying and many people besides me need to check email. So I'll sign off for now and get back to the blog in June (or maybe earlier).
